Cleaning your oven can seem like a daunting task and since most people don’t even make an effort to clean their oven on a regular basis. Over time your oven can become very dirty and the buildup of grease from spills with start to affect your food each time you use it. If you go too long without a cleaning your oven will smoke and can make a mess out of roasting anything. Cleaning your oven on a regular basis can prevent your oven from giving off fouls smelling smoke, and help you produce tasty meals every time you use it.

Most ovens have a self-cleaning feature and this makes cleaning a lot simpler and less time consuming.. Using the self-cleaning mode on your oven usually takes a few hours and it is a great way to reduce the work load. This however is not the only thing that needs to be done since it is just the first step of ensuring that the oven is sparkling clean. After self cleaning is complete you will need to clean the oven by hand being sure to wipe down everything inside the oven with. Many people like to use oven cleaner for this step, but warm soapy water works well also.

Fill the kitchen sink with hot soapy water and take out all the things from the range which all comes out easily. All the dials and oven grates should also be removed since they usually collect grease which makes the oven messy over time. All these things should be put into the kitchen sink that is filled with soapy water so that they can soak for a while before being cleaned. This usually takes a few minutes or so and this time can be spent wiping down the appliance.

You want to scrub all the external surfaces with a sponge that is wet and soapy. This helps when it comes to removing the grease. However if the oven has food spills that are dried up you may have to scrub them off with steel wool pads. Be careful not to use steel wool or other abrasive materials on the finished surfaces of your oven or stove as it can scratch them. The finished areas of the oven should then be cleaned using ammonia spray or any type of window cleaner which can be wiped out using a paper towel so that it can shine.

At this time the dials and grates should have soaked enough and this is the perfect time to start scrubbing them. They should then be rinsed and dried and the replaced on the oven. This allows the oven to look as clean as new especially with the finishing that has been done to make it shine.

Depending on how often you use your oven should determine how often you complete a though cleaning. Moderate users should do a cleaning like this ever 3 to 6 months. Keeping your oven clean will prevent you from ever having a smoke filled kitchen due to a dirty oven.
